Kawaida, translated as “tradition and reason,” was developed by the US organization and by Dr. Maulana Karenga as a synthesis of the best of nationalism, Pan-Afrikanism, and Socialism, and aims to pose an unyielding critique of what exists and to propose corrective measures. The Kawaida theory is not nearly as well-known or applied as Kwanzaa, which was created to celebrate its core seven principles, the Nguzo Saba.
