Thankful to have worked with organizations such as Take Action and Advocacy Group, Let’s Get Free, Twin Cities Theater of Color Coalition, and the Pittsburgh Human Rights Coalition, to create a 1-2 day workshop to develop strategy for the next year.

In this participatory evaluation of the Cleveland Foundation’s “Arts Mastery Initiative,” young people from seven arts education programs conducted nearly 80 interviews to address research questions explicitly designed for each program. Using a model of textual analysis to examine the way White-led institutions use text and talk to reproduce White group dominance, I developed a theory of how what foundations do not say about their own relation to racial capitalism and racism contributes to Black young people’s struggles to name the racism they experience. In 2022 and 2024, I designed and facilitated a course for Gathering Ground, Elevating Equity, that gave participants, with the support of skilled facilitators, the opportunity to use their work in the nonprofit sector to examine concepts such as neocolonialism, class, and Paulo Freire’s method of analysis to create interventions.
